Possible development in an AONB at Trevone PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 18 January 2009

Possible development of Affordable Homes at Trevone, near Padstow, is within an

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

CPRE Cornwall has been alerted to the possibility of land being developed in fields at Trevone that lie within an AONB.  At the present time, a planning application has not been submitted, but it is essential that everyone who cherishes both the Cornish countryside and the relevance of AONBs should keep alert to the prospect of an application.

The plan is for the construction of 16 affordable homes between the Padstow to St Merryn road and the beach at Trevone Bay.  One of the main worries is that by choosing to construct affordable housing, the developer would benefit from Cornwall Council designating the scheme's location as an "Exception Site", which could allow development within an AONB.

Trevone has very little infrastructure that would be expected by the purchasers of affordable homes, and certainly no jobs.

Of further concern is a footpath that crosses land on which the proposed development would be built.
